A message from the creator:

"I don’t know how to code, but I really, really wanted to build this game. I loved playing PC Architect on my phone as a kid, and this should be a love letter to GamesFromGarage and PC Architect. Retro Computer Designer 2000 is a passion project born out of a love for late-90s technology, hardware history, and pure love of PC hardware and parts. To fill the gap between my design ideas and actual programming, I partnered with Cascade (an AI coding agent) to write the code, refine the systems, and execute the logic. I didn't use any classic AI-created images since this would destroy the immersion; instead, I described every small detail of a component to Cascade so it creates SVG images. I directed the design, researched the historical hardware specifications, tried to balance the game where Cascade couldn't, and polished the user experience. The AI acted as my developer, translating that vision into the playable browser game you see here. This is a 100% solo-designed project powered by human passion and modern AI collaboration. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life!"

KNOWN ISSUES:

The Balancing with used Parts and Mails that allow them did not work so i tripled the Budget so its playable. I will try to Balance that in the Future.

Retro Computer Designer 2000

Step back into the golden age of beige boxes, glowing tubes, and dial-up tones! In Retro Computer Designer 2000, you are the master of a late-90s PC workshop in Berlin. Fulfill quirky customer requests, navigate the volatile hardware market, and master the dangerous art of overclocking in the year 2000.

COOL GAME SYSTEMS that make you want to play it ASAP

BUILD PCs

Build PCs from scratch with historically authentic hardware parts. Every component matters:

  • Check each part's compatibility and fulfill customer requests
  • Internal calculations based on real electrical engineering and thermodynamics

The Silicon Lottery & Dangerous Overclocking

Unlock the legendary BIOS SoftMenu to push your hardware past factory limits!

  • Manually adjust the front-side bus, multiplier, and VCore voltage.
  • Every CPU has a hidden "silicon quality." Some are golden samples that run cold; others are atomic bombs!
  • Push the voltage too high or skimp on the cooling, and your CPU will cook, leaving you with a fried, worthless paperweight!

Live POST Diagnostics & Y2KOS Boot

Don't just assemble parts — test your creations!

  • Click the power button to trigger a real BIOS
  • Install a hard drive and boot into Y2KOS, a fully functional retro desktop simulator with benchmarking programs!

Nostalgic Customer Mail

Interact with late-90s internet wanderers through an email client.

  • Build a smoke-grenade-proof rig for a hardcore Counter-Shoot clan member.
  • Solve system freezes for a teenager whose WinRamp visualizer keeps crashing when they get pinged on ICQ.
  • Sustain a Level 70 Barbarian through lag spikes in Diabolo II.

The ScrapHeap Used Market

Wholesale parts are safe but expensive. When budgets are tight, head to the local classifieds:

  • Classified listings refresh every single game day!
  • Buy refurbished "like new" parts, or take a gamble on "heavily used" salvage that might fail under stress testing.

WinRamp MP3 Player

Listen to authentic retro tracks on WinRamp!
